The study examines the Kenyan Hometown Associations based in Germany and the roles they play, both in Kenya and Germany. The rationale behind this book is to find out the different fields in which these HTAs are involved in and how they mobilize resources to carry out these cross-border activities. While similar research has been carried out on Latin America hometown Associations and the role they play in the sending and the receiving countries, little is known about the rapidly growing African hometown Associations in Europe. This study draws information from several sources; the literature review of African diaspora and migration and development. A survey of Kenyan HTAs in Germany both formal and informal has been carried out and interviews of the members of the Associations conducted. In conclusion, our research found that HTAs thrive better when they are able to access material and human resources.
