In Kenya Children with Disabilities are often stigmatized by the community and have to deal with several difficulties. There are limited day care facilities and rehabilitation services are often not available or very expensive for those families. To cope with these difficulties parents are often forced to quit their jobs to care for their children. In order to save money, they move to a slum area (e.g., Kibera slum) where living conditions are very bad. Because of a weak social security system and an inconsistent patchwork of public, private, and charity-based care-providers, there is insufficient help for families with Children with Disabilities in Kibera slum. Therefore the Child Destiny Foundation was founded by four parents of Children with Disabilities and the author of this book. The organization started as a self-help group for parents of Children with Disabilities and aims to improve the situation of families which live in Kibera slum. A quantitative research shows specific challenges of Children with Disabilities in Kibera Slum, how satisfied clients are with the Child Destiny Foundation and the further services needed.
