Turkey as a country has unique cultural characteristics that are different than Western part of the world. Psychotherapy and counseling models that are developed in Western cultures based on the specific cultural background and understanding are not always applicable within different cultures, with same purposes and methods. Therefore, certain adaptations and modifications has to be done based on cultural aspects in order to have a good communication between therapist and the client so that the cultural barriers, prejudgments or misunderstandings would not affect progress and outcome of the psychotherapy. MCT (Multicultural Counseling and Therapy Theory) shows itself as one great meta-theory among all Western psychotherapy theories and no matter which modality of therapy is chosen, MCT can be adapted into practical psychotherapeutic work. In this book, Turkish culture is put under the microscope in order to see the possible difficulties that one could face with a Western psychotherapy background and MCT is proposed as a possible best help for psychotherapist who works with Turkish clients all around the world and with other similar cultural- ethnic minorities.
