Cervical spinal manipulation is a popular form of treatment and practised by several practitioners. Various studies suggest that spinal manipulation may be beneficial for cervical dysfunction like pain and reduced range of motion, but it is also associated with serious adverse events like cerebrovascular accidents as a consequence of cervical artery dissection. The goal of this book is to give guidance to all who use cervical spinal manipulation in everyday practice. This would make it easier for the practitioner to decide whether or not to use upper cervical spinal manipulation in patients presenting with cervical dysfunction. Recent studies are combined with opinions of international experts to give a clear view on this subject. On the other hand, a literature review is done in search of a possible correlation between cervical spinal manipulation and cervical artery dissection. In the mean time, practitioners should keep in mind that there may be a correlation between cervical spinal manipulation and cervical artery dissection that can’t be excluded with regular safety test procedures.
